Our research group at the University of Virginia will be using surveys and interviews to understand the educational goals and needs of students and families in the Alleghany Highlands. Our goal is to support the schools in the Alleghany Highlands in their decision-making and strategic planning. The collaborative work will be conducted in 2015 and 2016.
Our research team consists of faculty, project staff, and graduate students including Sara Rimm-Kaufman, Lia Sandilos, Micela Leis, Holland Banse, Julia Thomas, Michelle Ko, and Melanie Willins. We appreciate the opportunity to listen and reflect on the experiences of children and youth in the Alleghany Highlands. The work is funded by the Alleghany Foundation as well as by training grants from the U.S. Department of Education.
